Illustrated City is an original art-documentary series created and hosted by Jakub Mazerant of IllustrateYourLife - Studio for Creative Collaboration. It explores the relationship between artists and the cities they live in. Each episode takes viewers behind the scenes to discover the people, places, and experiences that influence creative practice. The series combines travel, documentary filmmaking, and artist interviews. Filmed on location internationally, Illustrated City introduces audiences to artists working in diverse disciplines while showcasing the unique character of each destination. By turning everyday streets, studios, and galleries into part of the narrative, the series views and maps the city entirely through the eyes of its artists.
ILLUSTRATED CITY
Art. People. Cities.
Driven by a long-standing interest in connecting people through art, Jakub designed the series to build cross-cultural understanding. Moving away from a formal format, he focuses on getting to know the artists one-to-one and developing genuine relationships with them. To ensure these connections remain entirely honest and personal, the series is a completely solo venture - Jakub handles the production, filming, and editing of every episode himself. This hands-on process allows audiences to experience the creative spaces and local culture through the author's own eyes, discovering each destination organically as it happens.
ONE-To-ONE WITH ART
Since launching in 2023, the series has featured artists and creative communities across the globe, with new destinations continuing to expand the project:
Australia, New Caledonia, China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland
GLOBAL DESTINATIONS
Illustrated City offers audiences a different way to experience both artists and the cities they reside in. By bringing together travel and visual storytelling, he gives the artists opportunities to “paint the picture” and invite us into their version of the world. Each instalment encapsulates a specific moment in time, tracking exactly where the featured artists were in their lives and creative evolution, while documenting the precise look, feel, and atmosphere of their surrounding environments.

LET’S CONNECT
Illustrated City is an original documentary series created and hosted by Jakub Mazerant, exploring artists, creative communities and the relationship between people and the cities they call home.
The series offers cities, councils, tourism organisations, cultural institutions and creative partners an opportunity to present their city through the people who make it creatively distinctive. Rather than following conventional destination content, Illustrated City looks beyond familiar landmarks to discover artists, studios, cultural spaces, local traditions and the personal stories that shape a place.
Each episode is developed from a personal point of view, combining conversations with artists and creative practitioners with an exploration of the city itself. The result is documentary storytelling that can introduce audiences to a place through its creative life, rather than simply presenting it as a tourist destination.
For cities and tourism organisations, Illustrated City can provide distinctive long-form content that highlights local creativity and culture while reaching an international audience. For cultural organisations, it offers an opportunity to introduce local artists and creative communities to audiences beyond their immediate region.
The project can also contribute to international cultural exchange. By meeting artists and learning about their lives, influences, traditions and creative environments, audiences gain a more personal understanding of another culture. These connections can open conversations between communities and countries and encourage greater curiosity, respect and trust.
Illustrated City is open to suggestions and partnerships that can help bring future episodes to new locations. Support can take different forms, from connecting the project with local artists and organisations to assisting with production, accommodation, locations, promotion or funding.
For partners looking for an original way to showcase a city, support its creative community and build international cultural connections, Illustrated City offers a different perspective from the promotional content audiences encounter every day.
